Talk to your gallery.

Check to see if gallery workers or other artists from your gallery have already signed on to the commitment, and then let them know you support taking climate action.

What can my gallery do?

Ask your gallery if they have a Climate Action Plan.

If not, introduce them to the Climate Action Plan developed by Galleries Commit with Four Core Action Areas:

  1. Cut Emissions.

Galleries can calculate carbon emissions, commit to reductions, improve building energy use, reduce flights and airfreight, and contribute to protecting stored carbon.

2. Eliminate Waste.

Galleries can track waste, ban single-use plastics, and set policies to eliminate landfill waste from exhibitions and operations.

3. Support Staff.

Galleries can support their staff to take climate-conscious actions by ensuring they have workplaces free of racism, harassment, and other forms of inequity and are paid transparent, fair wages.

4. Collective Action.

Galleries can take action that is transparent, share what they learn with the gallery community, and have open dialogues with staff, artists, collectors, and vendors to help shift our sector’s paradigm.

Not sure what to say?

Hello!

I recently signed on to Commit to a Climate-Conscious Future via Artists Commit.

I wanted to check to see if there are any climate action steps already being taken at the gallery? If so, this is something I care about too, so let me know if there are things I can do in support.

If there's not something in the works already, perhaps we can do a Climate Impact Report for my next exhibition. It’s a helpful and flexible framework to introduce climate conversations on a project basis that can help the team better understand climate impact and possible actions to take.

I'm excited to be a part of this dialogue with you and to work towards these goals together.
